World Cup 2023: Suryakumar Yadav presents Ravindra Jadeja with 'best fielder' medal after semi-final win
World Cup 2023: India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was presented the best fielder medal by Suryakumar Yadav in an intimate dressing room ceremony following India’s 70-run win over New Zealand in the semi-final of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday,
The BCCI posted a video on social media platform ‘X’, showing Jadeja winning the best fielder medal following the semi-final. Fielding coach T Dilip named Mohammed Siraj, KL Rahul and Jadeja as the three candidates to win the medal. However, Jadeja emerged the winner having claimed three catches against the Kiwis in Mumbai.
Jadeja picked the crucial catch of Daryl Mitchell in the 46th over to stop the Kiwi batter to take the game away from the Men in Blue. Mitchell departed after scoring 134 runs off 119 balls, smashing nine boundaries and seven sixes.
He then picked the catch to send Glenn Phillips back to the pavilion as Jasprit Bumrah claimed his only wicket of the day. Phillips was looking strong on 41 runs but was denied his half-century by a brilliant effort from Jadeja on the boundary.
Jadjea then went on to take Mark Chapman’s catch at deep backward square leg as Kuldeep Yadav struck to deal a hammer blow to the Kiwis in their chase of 398 runs.
Thanks to Jadeja’s effort in the field, India beat New Zealand by 70 runs to advance to their fourth ODI World Cup final. Rohit Sharma’s men will be aiming to win India’s third ODI World Cup title and the second one on home soil.
India will now await the winner of South Africa’s clash with 5-time champions Australia in the second semi-final in Kolkata. The final is scheduled to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19.
