World Cup 2023: Michael Vaughan hopeful of a clash between India vs Pakistan in the semi-final
World Cup 2023: Michael Vaughan said that there is a high possibility of a semi-final between India and Pakistan after Australia beat Afghanistan in Mumbai.
Former England skipper Michael Vaughan reckoned that a semi-final between India and Pakistan in World Cup 2023 is very much on the cards. The veteran put forward his opinion after Australia beat Afghanistan by three wickets on Tuesday, November 7 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
India have already secured the top spot in the table after winning all of their first eight matches in the competition. Their last and final league match is against the Netherlands at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
Pakistan, on the other hand, are placed fifth in the table with eight points and a net run rate of +0.036 thanks to wins in four out of eight matches. Babar Azam’s men are currently fighting for the fourth and last semi-final spot along with Kane Williamson’s New Zealand and Hashmatullah Shahidi’s Afghanistan.
Pakistan’s last and final league match is against Jos Buttler’s England on November 11 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
As far as the match between Afghanistan and Australia are concerned, the match belonged to Glenn Maxwell, who scored an unbeaten 201. It was on the back of his knock that Pat Cummins and Co. managed to advance to the semis.
At one point in time, Australia were in all sorts of trouble with their score at 91 for the loss of seven wickets in 18.3 overs. Maxwell suffered from cramps during his knock and faced issues with hamstring and back. But that did not dampen his spirits. Rather, he played until the very end to take Australia past the finish line in a thrilling run-chase.
