A Captain With Most ICC Trophies.
Australia women's team skipper becomes captain with most ICC trophies. She tops Ricky Ponting and MS Dhoni.
Australian skipper Meg Lanning now has the highest number of major International Cricket Council (ICC) trophies as a captain in the history of the sport after her side won the Women's T20 World Cup final against South Africa on Sunday. Lanning as a skipper has won a total of five tournaments. These tournaments include the 2022 edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup and 2014,2018,2020 and, 2023 editions of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup. Behind Lanning is compatriot Ricky Ponting. Under his leadership, Australia won four major titles, which includes two back-to-back World Cup triumphs in 2003 and 2007 and ICC Champions Trophy wins in 2006 and 2009.
At third position is former Indian captain MS Dhoni, who is the only captain to win all three major ICC tournaments. Under his leadership, India won the T20 World Cup in 2007,the World Cup in 2011 and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. The cricket fraternity hailed the all-conquering Australian women's team for winning an unprecedented sixth T20 World Cup title.
Former England skipper Michael Vaughan was one of the first to comment on the Australian milestone. "Australia'a Women's team are absolutely fantastic", the cricket-turned-commentator posted on his twitter handle. " Australian women's team are an indomitable force, and have been for so long. Deserved champions once again What has been pleasing is to see that South Africa are heading in the right direction", remarked former West Indies pacer turned commentator Ian Bishop.
Former Zimbabwe pacer-turned -commentator Pommie Mbangwa tweeted:"What a day! Awesome atmosphere at Newlands. Congratulations and kudos to Australia ". Much credit for the Australia's success was due to their World No. 2 batter Beth Mooney. Drawing parallel with premier English all-rounder Ben Stokes, former spinner Monty Panesar wrote:" What does Beth Mooney and Ben stokes have in common, they are players for the big occassion and World Cup Finals.
